2016 Summer Walks & Talks Schedule

All tours begin at 6:30 pm with a 30-minute walk, followed at 7:00 pm by a 60-minute talk (45-minute presentation followed by questions) in the Caretaker’s Residence. The two tree tours will be all walking tours beginning at 6:30 pm. Guests are asked to meet at the northwest entrance of the Caretaker’s Residence, in the center of Goodale Park. Refreshments and light snacks will be provided.

July 13 Summer Tree Tour

What’s the deal with Goodale’s trees? Why do we post about them so much? It’s because we have a great collection of  that we’re really proud of! Want to learn more? Join board member and arborist Rick Frantz as he shares interesting facts about some of the park’s trees. Historical notes, medicinal uses and peculiarities will be noted so there’s something for everyone. The only thing you’ll need to know prior is that you have an appreciation for trees!

Aug 10 Hisotry & Nature at Green Lawn Cemetery

Established in 1848, Green Lawn Cemetery is central Ohio’s largest and most prestigious historical cemetery. Found in its story is not only the history of Columbus but also the natural history of Ohio, as the cemetery preserves a remnant of native mixed oak forest and natural topography. An arboretum and part of an Audubon Important Bird Area, Green Lawn is truly a “very special park”, and our presentation will explore this Columbus gem and inspire future visits! PS You’ll also hear about its ties to Goodale Park and Victorian Village…
