Sept. 5, 2012 Board Minutes:

Motion: To approve the September minutes as corrected.

Rec. & Parks:

Goodale Gates Elements

The lights have been installed and are operational. They look great. Quality Masonry will return to fix the darkened grout.

Goodale Pond

The fountain joints that were exposed due to sandblasting the graffiti have been siliconed The fountain was turned on Sept. 14. As for the remains of the graffiti, CR&PD will most likely wait until next spring to see if anything is still visible before the crew makes any further removal effort.


Concrete sidewalk replacements and new bench pads have been completed. There is one bench remaining for future placement in the park.

Treasurer’s Report:

Andy is submitting the FGP re-registration with the Secretary of State. For the month of September, total revenues and accounts receivable were $1,007.37. Expenses were $1,794.67. Total net assets as of 10/03/12 were: $23,280.70.

Volunteer Coordinator Update:

In Julie’s absence, Eric and Beth agreed to convene the work day this coming Saturday, Oct. 6, from 9 until noon.

Andy expressed concern that total expenses for the Volunteer Coordinator would exceed $4,000 for the current year.

Motion: (Klein/Vogt) To increase authorization for Volunteer Coordinator payment to $5,000 for calendar year 2012.

Motion carried.


  • Work Day: Work Day will be this Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 until noon. Activities will include weeding and general clean up of the park.
  • Turf Restoration Plan: The plan is in the works in response to the $3,000 from ComFest for turf restoration.
  • Tree Removal – Buttles and Neil: In negotiations with the city, 2 of the 3 trees in jeopardy due to ADA upgrade and new signaling will be saved.


Missy introduced Marc Flinn who has been investigating the FGP website and proposed that the Board change over from the present drupal system to that of word press. The latter is more user friendly. Jason requested that Missy demonstrate the Museum’s web site at the November Board meeting as an example of a word press system.

Next Committee Meeting: Monday Oct. 8, 2012 @7:00 pm

Planning and Development:

Fountain Update: Two of the underwater lights are not working. CAM is in contact with the light supplier to obtain replacements. Jason will check with Bart Overly regarding the memorial plaque’s final review. Training on fountain operation is pending the completion of all electrical issues. The proposed date for the fountain dedication is Sunday, May18, 2013.

Wm. Fish Gate: In light of UIRF rejection, and given the contract proposal for $48,000 (Quality Masonry) to do the stone repair on the three columns, Sells is proposing the following grant applications: $20,000 from OHS; $10,000 from the Jeffrey Fund; $10,000 from the Neighborhood Partnership Grant; $5,000 from the SNCA; and $3,000 from FGP. OHS application deadline is Oct. 29. Deadlines for the other grants are Nov. and Dec.

Events and Outreach:

  • Wm. Fish Gate Dedication: Missy presented a modified version of the GCAC poster they had developed. The pdf of this will be submitted to FGP email recipients and SNCA recipients to announce the Oct. 7 re-dedication of the gate.
  • Holiday Gala: The Gala will be held Wed. Dec. 5, 2012 at Michael and Kyung Sun’s, 743 Dennison Ave.
  • Next Committee Meeting: Monday Oct. 29 @ 7:30 pm at Maddy’s
